COLOR
Heavy-Duty
Engine coolants are dyed mostly for leak detecting purposes since the chemical constituents of antifreeze - glycol, water, and most inhibitors - are clear liquids. Our goal is to provide the appropriate PROFLEET® Engine Coolant technology. The color can be a custom request.

It is more relevant to discuss engine coolant color from the perspective of the coolant life cycle.
OEM Factory-Fill
OEMs factory-fill vehicles with "genuine" engine coolants that are dyed a specific color. When coolant technologies change, OEMs tend to change the coolant color as well. For example, Toyota's latest antifreeze, Genuine Toyota Super Long Life Antifreeze / Coolant, is pink. Prior to SLL pink, Genuine Toyota Long Life Antifreeze / Coolant was red. It's important to note that coolants with the same color does not indicate the same or even similar chemical technology. Also, coolant technologies that are the same or similar are not necessarily the same color. A blue coolant may be perfectly suitable as a replacement for a pink factory-fill coolant so long as the technologies are the same and the coolant has been tested to the OEM requirement.

Top-Off Service
Technically, vehicles can be topped off with any color coolant that is the same or compatible technology to the current coolant in the vehicle.* However, topping off an orange coolant with a blue coolant may cause the coolant to turn brown and, even though they may be chemical equivalents, brown fluid in vehicles is not appealing. After-market antifreeze manufacturers may have a wide range of colors for the same coolant chemistry to allow for color consistency and gold or yellow engine coolants offer a convenient solution to auto repair shops. The lighter color coolant can be mixed with any other compatible coolants without significantly changing the color.*

Drain, Flush, Fill
Engine coolants that meet the OEM requirements are suitable for full service drain, flush, and fill regardless of coolant color.

FORMULATION
Conventional coolant formulations are regarded as the traditional chemistries. PROFLEET® conventional coolants are pre-charged with SCAs and require Type 2 SCAs at regular service intervals. Extended Life Coolants (ELC) have a much longer coolant life and are boosted with extenders.*
*There may be exceptions to coolant use and compatibility, therefore, it is important to first consult with a PROFLEET® specialist to verify the intended use will not harm your engine.
OEM
OEMs factory-fill vehicles with specific engine coolant technologies. Technology, much more so than color, determines which antifreeze / coolant is required for proper top-off and flush-and-fill service. PROFLEET® engine coolants are formulated to be compatible with nearly all OEM requirements which tend to vary by production year.*

VEHICLE TYPE
As engine technology changed and incorporated the use of more aluminum parts, engine coolants had to change in order to avoid abrasion, corrosion, and pitting. Older gasoline and diesel engines call for specific engine coolant technologies such as traditional or conventional green coolants which tend to contain nitrites and silicates. Newer engines mostly require the use of organic acid technologies (OAT) that are free of nitrites, silicates, amines, and phosphates and are safer on rubber hoses and gaskets.*
